July 7: Dalhart, TX to Durango, CO

409 Miles

No pictures today, just riding. We got off to a bit of a late start after having to go to a couple of gas stations to get air for Marty's rear tire. This has become a morning ritual. It's amazing that you rarely find working air and especially a free pump.

Not much of interest on the ride. We seemed to spent a lot of time on breaks which, though welcome, drag on a bit too long. Sometimes we barely get through a town until we stop again for something. Clif's misnamed "Valkyrie Tourer" has a small gas tank. This is great in one respect as it forces us to stop and take breaks. We now know not to press our luck on his range.

Marty had pretty much decided to get a new tire if we could find a shop that had one in Durango. However, we didn't make any haste to get there. We found a shop but they were closing in 5 minutes. They do have a tire but can't install it until tomorrow morning. We had a long day's ride planned and this will get us off late.
