July 13: Colfax, WA to Seattle/Renton, WA

278 Miles

Made it into Seattle today. Took Rt. 26 from Colfax (see map). Was another 100 miles of wheat. Very pleasant road with little traffic. I-90 gets pretty once you've crossed the mountains about 40 miles outside Seattle. Was impressed by a sign that warned motorcycles about grooved pavement ahead. Way to go, WA DOT!

I started to pass signs for roadside stands offering cherries, apricots, and other fruits. We'll definitely get some great WA fruit (especially those apples!) to take on the ferry. Stopped for lunch at a restaurant (as opposed to fast food) and had a salmon/cranberry/spinach/raspberry vinegrette salad. Very tasty and the first of many salmon meals, I suspect. I realized today that I had gone through Idaho and never even had a Famous Potato. Guess I'll have to come back for that as well as another crack at the Lewis & Clark highway.

Saw signs for gas stations that also featured drive-thru espresso! They are really crazy for their coffee here in the Northwest. I guess you have to do something to keep from going crazy when it drizzles for months on end. Fortunately, the forecast is for good weather all week.

Just flipped on the TV. They were showing Frazier. I wonder if they have an all-Frazier channel in Seattle?
