The Sidewalk Arts Festival is unique in my experience. It is sponsored by SCAD. It runs only one day, from 11-5. Students, alums, and prospective students all take part. Each individual or team gets a portion of sidewalk for their canvas. They have about four hours to create their drawings on the sidewalks of Forsyth Park using about eight colors of chalk. They can apparently do whatever they want, including putting people into their pictures. Hundreds of people mill around or proceed slowly along the walkways watching the creative process. You can see some of their work in the pictures.
We all ate dinner at The Lady and Sons restaurant downtown.
It's a bustling place, started by Paula Deen who has a show on the Food Network. The food is down-home and, this
being somewhat of a tourist haunt, the lines are long. Fortunately, we had reservations.
On Sunday, we decided to all take a narrated tour of Savannah. This worked out great and allowed us to sit back and see
and hear about many things that we might have otherwise missed. After getting back to the Forsyth Inn, it was time
for some of us to leave. Jane and I were off to Hilton Head to visit Jane's cousin, Kit, for the day. We flew home
the next day (Monday) after spending some time seeing Hilton Head.
We didn't finish everything that we would have liked to do in either Charleston or Savannah so a return visit is in our future.
