Sanibel & Key West - September 2005
9/2/2005-9/12/2005 |
We made our yearly trip to our timeshare on Sanibel Island. Our friends, Chris and Ken White joined us from Boca Raton
for the Labor Day weekend. We had a great time and hit many of our favorite restaurants.
The units had been extensively remodeled and upgraded after the damage from Hurricane Charlie in 2004. They
had everything back online fairly quickly considering the difficulty of getting materials and contractors.
There was a red tide which caused a large fish kill during the last days of our stay. The beach smelled
pretty and we had to tread carefully around fish of all sizes.
After our week on Sanibel, we drove to Key West to spend a long weekend seeing the sights and taking in
those fantastic Key West sunsets. It was Jane's first trip to the Keys. The weather was hot and humid but
we persevered and had a fine time. Hit all of the usual tourist attractions including a tour via the Conch Train
and a visit to Hemingway's home and its collection of six-toed cats.
