When we were married, Jane had a cockatiel named Beaker. Beaker had never seen a cat and definitely wasn't much afraid of Abigail. He was jealous, though, and often when Abigail would come to sit on our laps at night Beaker would fly down and land on Jane's or my head so we'd be sure to know that he wanted some attention, too.

Beaker died in 1997.
