July 10: Around Grand Tetons & Yellowstone Parks
|
The day dawned with beautiful blue skies after showers the previous evening. I slept fitfully having not used a sleeping bag in many years. My tent cabin mates also snore a lot and I've become a light sleeper over the years.
We got on the road after some breakfast at the General Store. I've now had several meals there & just learned that there is actually a restaurant down the road a bit. Oh well.
We toured through the Grand Tetons. I don't have time to write a lot or caption all of the pictures, but I'm sure it's clear which ones these are. You can also play a movie clip that I made of the range. After having lunch near the Visitor's Center (Marty & I are trying buffalo burgers wherever we can), we headed for Yellowstone.
Due to time constrains and road construction, we decided to limit ourselves to just Old Faithful. We arrived a few minutes after the previous eruption and so had to wait about 90 minutes (it's no longer "faithful" every hour). While we were waiting, they announced that another geyser, Beehive, would be erupting shortly. Beehive isn't regular and usually goes off about twice per day. You can see those pictures below. The formation looks like a beehive. They let people on the walkway behind the geyser and many were getting wet. You can also see a movie of Beehive erupting. Unfortunately, I didn't think about the fact that taking the movie in portrait mode would make it come out sideways!
Old Faithful went off as scheduled. It wasn't as spectacular as I had hoped. Beehive was just about as good. I got another (sideways) movie of Old Faithful.
