July 15: In Seattle
|
Jane and I toured Seattle today. We took the bus into the city to save parking hassles. Our first stop was at Pike Place Market. We watched the guys toss fish (hard to catch a picture of one in the air) and then moved on through beautiful stalls of flowers and wonderful fruit and produce.
We walked down to the waterfront and spent some time deciding what else to do for the day. We had salmon sandwiches at one of the many restaurants.
The Underground Seattle tour sounded interesting and we hiked to Pioneer Square to join a large group for the tour. The tour was 90 minutes and was funny as well as an interesting look at how Seattle came to be.
From Pioneer Square we walked to the Bank of America tower. There is an observation deck on the 73rd floor. While the weatrher was good overall, it was somewhat hazy and we were unable to see Mt. Ranier at all.
After the BofA, we walked back to the waterfront and took a one hour harbor cruise. Then it was back uptown to the Mayflower Hotel to have a delicious dinner with our friend, Kathy Morrow, in the Andaluca restaurant. By the time we got back on the bus, we were both pretty beat.
We're heading for Bellingham and the Alaska Ferry tomorrow. I expect that it will be several days until I can post more.
P.S. I finally got the photos developed from the disposable camera. I've updated the July 12, 13, and 14th pages.
